2022 is a big milestone year for Narrative Interiors. We are celebrating 10 years in business! This is a celebration for all who have been a part of the company through all those years – a decade of following our passion for design and décor – a decade of innovation and hard work - a decade of growth, learning, and expansion.
Narrative Interiors offers both residential and commercial design and decorating services to Northern Ontario communities and beyond through in-person services as well as virtual design services.
A big success like this is the result of constant teamwork. The achievements of an organization are the results of the combined efforts of every individual connected to NI. For us this means our designers, our assistants, and the contractors and tradespeople we work with.

How it all began…
Chantal’s story all started with a dream, loads of ambition and a journal. Chantal’s true passion has always been interior design and decorating. She finally decided to take a leap of faith to start Narrative Interiors – recording every step of the process in her journal.
Narrative Interiors was born in 2012 – the first office being in a spare bedroom at Chantal’s home. She initially helped friends and family decorate their homes after completing the Home Staging & Redesign program through QC Design School.
A project from the first year of business
In the beginning, Chantal often met with doubtful attitudes from various people saying that this type of business will never survive in Timmins. This only fueled her drive to succeed even more! With direction from TEDC, funding from NOHFC, and great teamwork NI has grown over the years, accomplishing many goals and embracing new opportunities. Women entrepreneurs are making their mark on the economy and Chantal was empowered to build a successful business.
Project by project Chantal was able to create a demand for NI’s services. Within the first year of business, NI outgrew the home-based office – expansion was necessary! Narrative Interiors moved to a downtown studio to accommodate the increasing demand – more space was required to meet clients, house samples and employ staff.

It’s all about TEAMWORK!
Chantal realized within the first year of running Narrative Interiors that she couldn’t do this alone. Over the next few years, she hired various assistants to help with the day-to-day operations of the business as well as help with any tasks needed to complete projects. Chantal is forever grateful of the help that these assistants provided. Chantal’s mantra has always been to “surround yourself with talent”! This eventually led to an even further expansion. Associate Designers joined the NI team, allowing the company to take on more projects at the same time. Collaboration on some projects provided the opportunity for each of the team members to learn from one another, further contributing to the success of Narrative Interiors. Chantal always gives credit to the strong teamwork of the 3 original designers in the early years of the business that built the solid foundation of NI and we are proud to say that we remain not only colleagues but the best of friends.
In 2016, NI was the recipient of the NorthernTel Productivity, Innovation & Diversification NOVA Award. We are always grateful for the continuous support from the Timmins Chamber of Commerce of the efforts of ambitious entrepreneurs.

Keep Evolving
The business plan of NI has evolved over the years as we have expanded and ventured into new territory – a natural progression for the interior design business. With more and more design and decorating projects on our calendar, combined with our desire for specific types of products, it made sense for our business to offer hand-picked, curated furniture pieces and décor products through our studio to completely serve our clients. With the development of the retail part of the business we needed more physical space to showcase these items.

Chantal has had a vision and a dream to build a new design studio that would fit all of the growing needs of NI but we needed a larger location in the meantime while we begin the process of planning and construction. In the fall of 2021, a space was offered to us and we moved into a temporary location at 71 Algonquin Blvd. E in Timmins – housing our retail space and our design studio.

Just Go For It!
Initially, Narrative Interiors served local clients in Timmins, but with the expansion of the team over the years we have been able to serve all Northern Ontario, from Hearst down to Sudbury, in both the residential and commercial sectors – even working with several hospitals in the Northern Region. In the age of virtual services through technology we have also been able to serve several clients across Canada.
